Sailing

Thursday night we went sailing with my
BOSS AND HER HUSBAND.

Just because we're on the water, the planking doesn't end.

Brian let Dylan steer the boat then entire time
and Dylan LOVED it.

We had a terrific time sailing around Long Island Sound.
Paul had a sailboat for many years and decided
to sell it about 3 years ago. He had such a good
time on our little voyage that I was worried
he'd want to get another one.
He said, no - golf takes up all his time now.
Thank God for Golf! (never thought I'd say THAT)

Three More Books

Ok, so I read another 3 books in the past 10 days.
I have become a permanent fixture in "my chair"
by the window. I am determined to reach my goal
of 50 books this year.

So, first up

Love Tina Fey.
Loved the book.
Hate the cover, those arms creep me out.
I AM TINA FEY!! Seriously!!
I studied drama like she did!!
Sadly, I too have an Annie song on my iPod.
We were even on the same cruise ship when it caught fire!!!
WE ARE THE SAME PERSON!! - well, except she can call Alec Baldwin
whenever she feels like it.
Great book!!

Next

This is a story about two high school students who
take naughty pics of each other on their cell phones
and send them to each other.....and then get caught.
Mom and Dad find out.
The police find out.
The FEDS find out.
I told Dylan, "DON'T EVER DO THAT!
"I KNOW Mom. I know."

Most recently I finished

My second Jodi Picoult book. Not sure if I like her or not.
Her main characters are not all that likeable but I kind of like that.
This book was about a child who was molested.
Ugh.
Horrible topic. Good story.
I may read another one of her books.

So, only 19 more books to go!
I can do this.

What The Hell is Wrong With This Kid??

So, my son has taken up the fine art of
PLANKING.

According to Wikipedia, which is where I get
all my answers for unimportant things,
Planking is an activity, popular in various parts of the world,
consisting of lying face down in an
unusual or incongruous location.
Also known as EXTREME LYING DOWN.


For example here he is on a recent visit to the mall:

Okay, whatever.
Now, here is where it gets a little more interesting:


The fact that he's so tired he needs to lie down
on an escalator - moving stairs - concerns me.

I knew nothing about this.

Should I be concerned?
As long as he's not PLANKING on top of a bridge
or in the middle of the street, I'm okay with it.
When I said he needed a hobby, this is not what I had in mind.

Summer Day

Reading Like a Madwoman!

So, in the past 10 days
I've read 5 books.
Not bad, huh?

First up:

This is a book about a woman's descent
into Alzheimer's, written by her son.
He obviously loved his mother very much,
but he's not a very good writer.
Very easy read, sad.

Next up:

My first Anna Quindlen book.
I won't spoil it for you, but there is
a lot of tragedy.
Excellent read.

Continuing on my tragedy trek:

A Columbine-like tragedy.
Very good.

What's this???
Even more tragedy??

Not the best, predictable, but not the worst.

I just finished:

It's about a woman who has amnesia and
each morning she wakes up and has no idea
who she is. She learns about her life each day
but once she falls asleep, it's gone.
This is not a comedy like Groundhog day or
50 First Dates, this is a Suspense Novel.
Couldn't put it down.
Excellent ending.

So, what I've discovered about myself
is that I really like tragic suspense novels!
I should probably lighten up a little and
read some summer beach books.

I have read 28 books this year.
56% of my goal which is 50 books for the year.
I'm going to make it!

Speaking of Golf.....

So, apparently my kid is an amazing golfer.


He won the Coach's Award on the Varsity Golf Team.

The Passage or How I Was Duped Into Reading an 800 Page Vampire Lit Book

Just finished reading


It wasn't bad.
I was really into it until I came across the
VAMPIRES.
I swear, when I read the synopsis
NO WHERE
did it mention
VAMPIRES!
NO WHERE.
Because if it had, I would not have committed
to this 800 page book.
I am not a Vampire Lit chick.
(ok, I read the Twilight series, but
let's not get into that).

So, this book was good.
First part, went quickly but once
I got to the vampires, it slowed down,
but the last 1/2 of the book was much better.
However...
I HATED THE ENDING.
Apparently there is a SECOND book
coming out next year.

I have decided that I will not commit
to a series unless I am late to the party
and the entire series is published and
ready for me to zoom through.

I will not wait.

That is how I read the Hunger Games Trilogy...
oh, and the Twilight books, but again, let's not
get into that.
