The Gala

I work in the development office
at a private independent day school.
We raise money.
LOTS of money.
Well, tonight is our SPRING GALA!
It's very fancy.
This is what I'm wearing

It's not black.
I has NO sleeves.
It has tiers.
3 big no-no's, but hey, I'm doing it anyway,
-so suck it.

As for jewelry, I asked my mother if I could
borrow some of hers.
She works for Judith Ripka
and has great things.
Her response:

"If you loose it, you have to pay for it."

Again - suck it.

So I took myself to Nordstrom and
got my own, a bracelet and earrings.

Here is a pic of Kate Gossling wearing my earrings

Bad sign, right?

Anyway, Paul and I are going.
I fully expect to have a
FANTASTIC time.

-and since we worked so hard to
put this party together, we have
Monday off!!!

Fascinating

Just finished reading

-by the way, I hate the cover, it doesn't do the book justice.

This is probably the 5th book I've read by Naomi Ragen.
She writes novels about Hasidic Jews.
We're talking seriously religious Jews.
I find that life fascinating!
Seriously!
The culture, the rules, the dress!
These novels tell great stories while explaining this
mysterious lifestyle.
I find it fascinating that the Hasidim have been able
to live their lives according to their beliefs, - which many
would call backward and archaic - they live like this in
modern day NY!
I was driving through Brooklyn last week and passed through
Williamsburg. There were the men with their giant hats

Women completely covered and usually pushing strollers with
a trail of kids following them

You have to give them a lot of credit - to be living
like this today. To be able to follow their beliefs with all
the "trappings" of modern day.
I find it FASCINATING.

Listening To....

(I'm posting this picture even though I cannot stand
Kristen Dunst. She needs to get her teeth fixed and
she could use a good Silkwood shower)

Anyway -

I was on iTunes trying to download
Along Again Naturally by Gilbert O'Sullivan.
Hey, I am a child of the 70's, get over it.
Well, the only way I could get it was on the
Virgin Suicides Soundtrack.

Sure, why not.

Well, I LOVE IT!!
Great 70's and 80's music!

I am now a big Todd Rundgren fan!
His
Hello It's Me
and
A Dream Goes On Forever
are on the album.

This is perfect music to blast while driving around
in my Beetle with the sunroof open.

Love it!!

I WISH It Was All Greek To Me!

I made this AMAZING chicken dish tonight,
Greek Chicken and Potatoes.
Lots of garlic, lemon and oregano.
The house smelled soooo good while it was cooking.
The chicken was so juicy, the potatoes yummy!
I made a nice Greek salad to go along with it.
I should have been Greek.

No, that is not my picture.
It's from the website where I found the recipe.
You can find it here on Heather Christo Cooks.

My Hero

My dad is the best.
He loves his grandchildren.
This was last Easter, making a mess with bubbles.

He's a great coach.
Here he is being interviewed after his basketball team
made it to the finals.

He's got a pretty good sense of humor.
This is how he greeted us when we went trick or treating at his house.
I still have nightmares!

He's pretty cool.
He really put things into perspective for me today.
He has an uncanny way of always looking on the bright side of things.
He inspires me to do the same.

Thanks Dad.
I love you.

depressed

Vacation couldn't have come
at a better time.

I'm going back to bed.

Totally Creepy!

Just finished reading

I'm not sure how I happened upon it.
I think it was recommended on my Amazon account
because I read

-which happened to be a great book.
Totally disturbing, but really great.
Anyway,
I just finished The Girl Next Door.
Apparently the author, Jack Ketchum, writes books that
give Stephen King nightmares!
I can understand that.
The book is sort of a morality test.
The things that happen, are , well, very disturbing.
I often had to take a break after reading a chapter.
I didn't hate it.
I even looked at another book by Ketchum.
The synopsis scared the crap out of me!
I'm moving on.

A Little Stress Goes A Long Way

So, I have a few things going on in my life.

Dylan has some health issues.

Work is crazy busy, we have a big event
coming up and I have a yearbook deadline
that has come and gone and I am no where
near being finished with it.

Then my back started itching.
And itching.
REALLY itching.

No, it's not shingles - I had that already!

Went to the doctor.
He takes a look and says,
"So, anything going on in your life?"

HELLO???!!!

Eczema - due to stress.

I AM AM SO ITCHY!!!!!!
I feel like I am going to rip my skin off!

The doctor gave me a steroid cream
and some Xanax.

Steroids and Xanax.
Quite a combo.

Admission

Since
I work at a private, independent prep school.
I work closely with the administration.
I have a child in high school.
I thought I would enjoy this novel which is
about a Princeton admissions officer and the
process of college admissions.

It was pretty good.
Now, I'm a tough critic.
In ordre for me to consider a book to be a
FANTASTIC
book, I have to not be able to put it down.
I have to read into the wee hours of the morning.

I could put this one down.
It was good, but I was looking forward to
getting on to the next book.

I give it a B.
