Took Dylan to the mall last night for sneakers.
He picked out some not so awful pair.
I let him get them.
At some point I made some comment like this:
"they're awful".
Dylan got upset with me and said,
"Why do you have to say something like that?"
He had a point.
Why did I have to say that?
Later:
We're walking past a store with very wrinkled
jeans on the mannequins. It thought they looked
ridiculous and I made this comment;
"I can make your jeans look like that for a lot less."
All of a sudden it hit me.
I'm starting to sound like the parent of a teenager.
He's only 11.
I guess I'm advanced.

If it's any consolation, they turn into teens a lot earlier these days. :-( :-( :-( I've found myself wondering why I couldn't have swallowed back a comment or two too. :-(
Totally advanced....btu then, I think the kids are too. I mean, my almost 7 year old acts more like an almost 17 year old at times.
LOL! You know there have been a few times where I have caught myself saying things to my girls that I used to hate hearing coming from my mom. That's just creepy. LOL
Yup, my girl is 9 and I've had to choke down a few comments about clothing and let her be her own person. Its hard but I know it'll benefit her later.
You are probably "gifted." Should I write you a parenting IEP???
I wish my issues were as simple as clothing....my oldest will wear just about anything, unless it's itchy. So, I am still picking all his clothes when I buy them.
Geez.....my guy is 11 and is getting zits and has a shadow of fuzz on his upper lip and some "downstairs" and I can't believe it!!! (How do I know? Well, some new underwear rubbed him, causing a bad sore that he asked me to look at and put medicine on----I was COMPLETELY UNPREPARED for what I saw!! I freaked!!)
