Another Openin', Another Show

So, Wednesday night I went to the opening
of a TERRIFIC new Off-Bway show called

It's the story of 9 African American boys who were
falsely accused of raping two white women in the 30's.
The musical is presented as a minstral show.

Very powerful and just terrific.
It was written by Kander and Ebb, the men who wrote
Chicago and Cabaret.
Paul represents all their musical interests so THAT'S
why we were there.
So, yes, were were there and so was...
David Hyde Pierce - two rows in front of us.

and Debra Monk sat next to Paul.

and Mario Cantone was sitting behind me.

and Chita Rivera was right in front of me.
I said to Paul, "Look, I could spit right on her head."
And he said, "Please don't do that."
Joel Grey sat down front. He's tiny.
Blair Brown was in the back.

I really don't know how I missed Liza.
I've been at parties with her and she is seriously,
always the MOST FAMOUS PERSON in the room.
They must have been hiding her under a chair or something
because the theater only had 199 seats.
The place would have exploded when she entered.
I think she just showed up for photos afterwards.

The show is sold out and hopefully will move to Bway after its run.
Truly powerful.

Oh so envious! Of the things I miss about city life, Theatre is one of the big ones. Looks like a great time, and I had to laugh because I would have said the same thing about "spitting distance"!
